Mouse Test FAQ
Short answers about testing a mouse in your browser: why a mouse double clicks, how to test side buttons, what a good click speed is, how to find your polling rate and DPI, what a browser can and cannot measure about latency, and how to fix a scroll wheel that skips.
Mouse test questions
Is this mouse test free?
Yes. Every test on mouseclicktest.app is free, runs in your browser and needs no account, app or download. There are no ads, no sign-up and no cookies, and it works in any modern browser.
Does the site collect my clicks?
No. All counting and timing happens in your browser and nothing is sent to a server. Only your best click speed scores are stored, in your own browser, and you can delete them by clearing site data.
Why does my mouse double click?
Usually a worn or dirty switch bounces and sends two clicks for one press. Run the double click test: short red gaps confirm a hardware fault. Settings such as a slow double-click speed can cause similar symptoms.
How do I test side buttons?
Press back and forward while the pointer is over the test box on the mouse button test. They show as buttons 4 and 5. The page tries to stop the browser from going back a page.
What is a good CPS?
There is no official standard. Scores depend on technique, mouse and test length, and short tests give higher numbers. Compare with yourself using the same time and button each time.
What polling rate is my mouse?
Use the polling rate test in Chrome or Edge and move the mouse in fast circles for three seconds. The result shows the median and the nearest standard rate, such as 500 or 1000 Hz.
Can a browser measure mouse latency?
Only the part inside the browser: from the click event to the page code and to the next frame. The mouse, the connection and the screen add delay the browser cannot see.
How accurate is the DPI test?
It is an estimate. The browser sees pointer movement after the operating system applies its speed setting and acceleration. With acceleration off, neutral speed and a careful measured move, it gets reasonably close.
How do I fix a scroll wheel that skips?
Blow compressed air around the wheel while turning it, try another port or battery, and check smooth scrolling settings. If the scroll test still shows wrong-way jumps, the wheel encoder is probably worn.
Does it work on Mac, Linux and ChromeOS?
Yes. The tests use standard browser mouse events and work in modern browsers on all of them. Some browsers handle side buttons and polling rate differently, and the page tells you when that limits a result.
